Audiology and Hearing Aids
Audiology, (derived from the Latin audire, to hear) is the branch of science that studies hearing, balance and related disorders.
Practitioners who treat those with hearing loss and proactively prevent related damage are audiologists. Persons specialising in hearing aid fitting and rehabilitation are registered hearing aid dispensers.
Hearing loss affects about 1 in 5 of the population, with 50% of people over the age of 60 having some hearing loss (presbyacusis). On average it takes 7 years from the time people perceive they might have some hearing loss for them to actually seek treatment.
Hearing loss greatly affects your ability to communicate and can seriously affect your quality of life. With the advances in hearing aid technology, we can now help more people than ever to hear better and continue to be engaged with their social and working lives.
At the Specialist Medical Clinic, Alan Stone, our registered audiologist, has more than 30 years' experience and is able to offer:
- free, no obligation, hearing tests for adults
- sale of a selection of hearing aids, including miniature digital hearing aids
- sale of custom made ear moulds and swim plugs
Hearing aid batteries and accessories are also sold in the clinic.
